Dorothy E
Hinz
February 8, 1927 – September 18, 2022
Dorothy E Hinz, 95, passed away peacefully in her home on September 18, 2022.
Dotty was born in Kingston, NY to the late Elting and Florence Ellsworth and, along with older sister Barbara, grew up in the small town of Port Ewen. She worked a number of jobs from picking blueberries to sewing pajamas in a local factory, but by far her favorite was the summers she spent waitressing and living at Mohonk Mountain House In New Paltz. She took all of her savings and attended a secretarial program at Becker Junior College in Worcester, MA, graduating in 1947 with an Associate's Degree. She would go on to work as a secretary at Sullivan and Crowell in New York City. In 1950, she married George Hinz, a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and the love of her life. After a half-dozen years as Jersey City residents, they moved to Edison where they raised their family. For many years, she was employed as a secretary in the Computer Science Department at Rutger's University where she gained the computer skills that would carry her well into her 90's whether it be her online shopping escapades or Facebook posts. She had a fierce love for her family and friends, enjoyed exploring the backroads of New Jersey, traveling, and savoring a good afternoon tea.
In addition to her late parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband George in 2004. She is survived by her loving daughters Ruth Plucinski and husband John, and Linda Parry. She also leaves behind her dear grandchildren Derek, Dana, Michael, and Kevin as well as nieces Susan Cloutier, Ellen Mone, Carol Moharaj, Dorothy Porter, Maryett Gyula, and nephew Eric Hinz.
A memorial service will be held at Willow Grove Presbyterian Church, 1961 Raritan Road, Scotch Plains on Saturday, November 12 th at 11 a.m., followed by a tea in Dotty's honor. The family requests in lieu of flowers that any contributions be made in Dotty's honor to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org) Arrangements under the direction of Flynn and Son/Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Ave., Metuchen, NJ 08840.
