Doreen J. Hurst, 70, entered eternal rest on Friday, November 17, 2023 at Hackensack Meridian/ JFK Medical Center in Edison.

Born on October 13, 1953 in Staten Island, New York to Pasqual and Dora Brogna, she was raised in Edison. She was a 1973 graduate of Edison High School. It was in High School where she met her husband of 46 years, Carl Hurst.  They were crowned High School Class Couple of in their senior year. Doreen was employed as a lunch aid in the Edison School District for many years. She was also a member of the Edison Elks Lodge #2487.  She was known for her baking skills and many of her coworkers looked forward to receiving cookies at Christmas time. Her family and friends will forever miss the treats she made during the holidays of date-nut bars, apricot cookies, and homemade manicotti. Doreen was most happy when she was in the presence of family and friends. Often referred to as "Giggles," she had a joyful giggle and an infectious smile that lit up a room.

Doreen was preceded in death by her parents Pasqual and Dora Brogna,her sister Patricia Wylie, and father-in- law Carl Hurst Sr.  She is survived by her beloved husband Carl; daughter Lisa and her husband Salvatore Del'Re Jr.; her grandchildren Salvatore III and Mariena; her sister Lenora and her husband Jack Byrne, and mother-in-law Marie Hurst.

Friends may call at the Flynn and Son/Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Ave., Metuchen Tuesday, November 21, 2023 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm where funeral services will begin on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 9:00am. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 9:30am in St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, 81 Seymour Ave., Edison. Entombment will take place in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, Woodbridge.
