Obituary

Donald F. Lopes, 71, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2020.  Donald was the beloved husband of Katherine, his devoted wife.  He was born in Newark, NJ, and was a resident of Edison for the last 44 years.

Donald was a graduate of Bloomfield College in NJ, where he earned a BA degree in Accounting.  He received an Honorable discharge for his service in the U.S. Army National Guard of NJ, and as a reserve of the Army during the Vietnam War.

Donald was employed by the U.S. General Accounting Office in New York, as a Senior Evaluator and Audit Manager.  He received many awards for his reports and accomplishments.  He actively assisted in establishing the U.S. GAO Fort Monmouth, NJ, site.

Donald was an avid reader with many interests:  World History, American History, Religion, music, the arts, science, medicine, politics, autos, sports and weightlifting.  He also liked photography and gardening.  Donald and Katherine enjoyed skiing,  traveling, and always being together having fun.  He was a devoted husband; he was extremely intelligent, kind, loving, sweet and supportive.  Donald is the love of Katherine's life and she is blessed to have shared her life with him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Katherine, of 46 years. Also many caring nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends.

He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph F. Lopes and his sister, Linda Lopes Stein.

He was a communicant of St. Cecelia and St. Helena's Churches.  Donald's memorial mass and celebration of life will be offered at a future date.

Donald will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.  He had a beautiful soul, heart and mind, a fabulous wit and sense of humor, and a smile to light up the world.
