Donald C. Lamothe passed away at John F Kennedy Medical Center on Sunday, October 30, 2022. Donald was born in the Bronx, was raised in Jersey City and resided in Edison for over 40 years.
Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Diane (née Ryan); his sister Irene Salmon, Indian Land, SC; brother in-law Albert Ryan and 15 nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly: Mark Haney, Hollywood FL; Ellen Nardoni, Somerville NJ; Carol Petrosino, Scottsdale AZ; Janice Miholics (Rob), Southport NC; Mary Kate Haney, Oakland CA; Matthew Haney, Kettering OH; Elaine Haney (Jeb Spaulding), Essex Junction VT; Thomas Salmon, Red Bank NJ; Mary Grillo (Robert), Barnegat NJ; Kathleen Donato, Palm Coast, FL; William Salmon (Doris), Cary, NC; Nancy Langan (Mark) Indian Land, SC; Terence Salmon (Judy), Verona NJ; Michael Salmon (Anjanette), Cary, NC and Albert Ryan Jr (Christine), Bethany CT. Donald was also the proud great-uncle of 31 nieces and nephews, and great-great uncle of 20. He adored his many cousins and cherished every minute he spent with them. He was blessed with many friends (new and old) who filled his life with so many beautiful memories.
Donald was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Irene Lamothe, his sister Joan Haney and his brothers-in-law William Salmon and Edmond J. Haney.
Donald graduated from Seton Hall University, where he majored in Communications. He enlisted in the ROTC while in college and joined the US Army upon graduation. He applied and was accepted to the Special Forces. Donald's service took him many places, including Germany. He was proud to serve and retired with the rank of Captain. After retiring from the Army, Donald enjoyed a long career with the State of New Jersey Department of Human Services as the Training Director for the developmentally disabled.
Donald was an animal lover, a Broadway devotee, an accomplished sketch artist, cartoonist and photographer, a gourmand and a music aficionado with a special appreciation for Gershwin. He loved his family and we loved him back hard. He was the heart and soul of our gatherings, always at the center of the crowd with a story or anecdote that invariably led to shouts of laughter. Donald introduced us to A Christmas Story, had a knack for choosing the right gift, adding the perfect message and finding the perfect entry for our annual Christmas card contest. His sense of fun and quick humor inspired many of our family traditions, and so many of our best and most cherished memories involve him. We will miss Donald always.
