Donald A. Korneski, 86, formerly of Edison, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 17, 2024, at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Born in Perth Amboy, Don was a resident of Edison for 52 years until he moved to East Brunswick 4 years ago. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace RC Church in Fords.
Donald was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School class of 1955 where he played football and baseball. After high school he attended Rutgers University, where he majored in history and was a member of the baseball team. He graduated with the Class of 1959 and began a career in education. He was a teacher, guidance counselor, and principal during his more than 35 years in education and left a lasting impact on many. He was most proud of serving as the principal of Westwood H.S. for the majority of his career.
He loved his family, friends, and the St. Louis Cardinals. In retirement he spent most of his time either enjoying time with his family and friends or finding a baseball game to watch. He also loved growing up in Perth Amboy where he met his lifelong friends in the neighborhood or through playing sports.
He was predeceased by his parents, Andrew Korneski and Alma Pucci Korneski, and his beloved wife Gloria Korneski.
He leaves behind his sons, Douglas M. Korneski and his wife, Kelly, of Tennessee and Michael D. Korneski and his wife, Jennifer, of Spotswood; his beloved grandchildren: Isabella, Kathleen, Jack, and Nicole. Also surviving are several nephews, nieces, and cousins whom he loved dearly.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday May 21, 2024, from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford. Ave., Fords. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 am from the funeral home, followed by a 10:30 am Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Peace RC Church in Fords. Entombment will follow in St. James Cemetery Mausoleum, Woodbridge.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Donald's name to St.Jude.org or a charity of your choice.
