Obituary

Dieter Schmidt, 87 of Edison passed away on July 5th, 2024, at home with family by his side.  Born on March 30th, 1937, Friedberg, Germany to Adam Ludwig Schmidt and Anna Kutscher.  He emigrated to the United States in 1958, where he proudly served his new country in the United States Marine Corps.  Prior to his retirement in 2003, Dieter spent over 20 years employed by Impact Exhibits in Dayton, NJ.  As a respected, Master Cabinet Maker, Dieter had the ability to build anything from hand, even if you only provided him a simple sketch on paper.  From miniatures to large scale buildings, his incredible craft and workmanship had a decerning eye to detail and quality.  He enjoyed traveling and seeing various places in this world.

He is predeceased by his former spouse, Karla Schmidt (née Dvorak), brothers August Schmidt and Karl-Heinz Schmidt.  Dieter leaves behind his wife, Patricia A. Ray-Schmidt; his stepchildren Cheryl Roxlau (Joseph T. Romano) of Edison; Anthony Ray (Amy) of Edison; his daughter Sandra J. Weston (Stephen) of Howell; his grandchildren: Lucas and Erika Weston; 7 step grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; and his sister Marga Dworak.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords with a funeral service to take place at 7:45PM.  Cremation will be private.  In lieu of flowers a donation to the American Heart Association would be appreciated.
