Clyde Eliot Gumbs 62, of Edison, entered into eternal rest, October 18, 2016, at JFK Medical Center in Edison. He was born in Perth Amboy to Jeremiah and Lydia Gumbs and was formerly of Atlanta, GA, and Anguilla, West Indies, before moving to Edison 5 years ago.
Clyde was a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints in Scotch Plains and a graduate of University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business and University of Pennsylvania Law School.
Clyde was a retired Business Consultant, Lawyer, Poet and author of The Seven Seeds and Without Apology. He was the first African-American vice president at the Bank of New York. He was founder of The Chrysalis Experience L.L.C. and co-founder of The Integral Group.
Clyde is survived by his former wife Pauline McKenzie of Atlanta, his children Ariana C. Good and her husband Andrew of Scotch Plains, Alexis Pauline Gumbs and her partner Julia Wallace of Durham, NC, Jared McKenzie Gumbs of Philadelphia, PA, and Seneca Gumbs Morin of Atlanta, GA, his granddaughter McKenzie Marie Good, his siblings Duane Carter Gumbs and his wife Carol Gumbs of Edison, Jere Alan Gumbs and his wife Lisa Gumbs, and Una Christine Gumbs of Anguilla, West Indies and his best friend Egbert Perry.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday October 29, 2016 at 1 pm at the Church of Latter Day Saints 1781 Raritan Road, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076.
