Claire J. Fessler, 61, of Metuchen, passed peacefully at her home, with her family at her side, on Thursday, May 12, 2016.
Born in Bronx, NY and formerly of Edison, she lived for 29 years in Metuchen, before moving to Fords 2 years ago.
Claire was a 2nd grade school teacher at the Roosevelt Elementary School with the New Brunswick Board of Education and was a avid reader and lifelong teacher and member of the NJEA.
She was a former member of the Metuchen PTO, where she was very active from 1990 thru 2005, and of Congregation Neve Shalom in Metuchen.
She will always be remembered for loving smile and for generously opening her doors to her home, to any child in need of a safe haven. She will be sorely missed.
She is predeceased by her father, Jules Whitman who died in 1988.
Claire leaves behind, her beloved husband of 42 years, John, her three children; Ari of Metuchen, Miriam of Chicago, IL, and Noah of Minneapolis, MN, her sister, Ronni Whitman of California, her brother, Lloyd Whitman of Alexandria, VA, and her mother, Lollie Whitman-Margolin of Highland Park.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2016, from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Flynn and Son / Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Ave., Metuchen, NJ 08840.
Interment will follow in King Solomon Cemetery, Clifton at 1 pm of Monday.
Shiva will be observed at the family residence, on Monday from 4 pm to 7 pm & Tuesday from 1 pm to 7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to: Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in NY City.
