Charles "Charlie" Telliho, 91 years old, passed away at home in Metuchen, NJ with his family around him.

Born in 1925 in Perth Amboy, NJ to Anna and Michael Telliho both deceased. Charlie was predeceased by his siblings Ann Telliho Kushman, Michael Telliho, John Telliho and George Telliho.

An enterprising youth in the Great Depression who held a series of odd jobs from shoeshine boy to pin setter at the St. John's Russian Orthodox Church Recreation Center. He became an expert bowler and enjoyed many years in various area bowling leagues. Charles graduated Perth Amboy High School in 1942 and after a short stint with General Ceramics Company, Perth Amboy, enlisted in the Merchant Marines. Having completed basic training he was recruited by the Army and enlisted as a 2nd Lieutenant serving in the Port of Antwerp Belgium in World War II. After the war, Charles returned to Perth Amboy, joined the Army Reserves and attended Rutgers University on the GI Bill. He met Arline Hospodar at the Crystal Diner on Smith Street in Perth Amboy and they married shortly after his graduation from Rutgers in 1952.

Charles returned to active duty and shipped out to Korea as a Major during the Korean Conflict in 1953. After his tour he went back into the Reserves and retired from the Army in 1967 having served more than 20 years and achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel.

An early convert to the anti-smoking movement who quit his two pack a day plus habit in 1966, Charles joined the YMCA, took up running and played handball with a regular group for nearly 30 years. He was an avid tennis player and the family became regulars on the waterfront courts of Perth Amboy as well as at the Frog Hollow Swim and Tennis Club in South Amboy. Charles worked for Allstate Insurance in Perth Amboy and Colonia, insuring many area residents over the years. He retired in 1995 at the age of 70 after 40 years with the company. A lifelong golfer, once retired he could be found on the links of the Fort Monmouth Glenn Eagles Golf Course three days a week, often with his wife Arline.

Charles was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2009 at the age of 84. He was cared for at home by his wife of 64 years.

He is survived by his wife Arline Hospodar Telliho and their three children, Claudia Telliho of Washington, DC; Matthew Telliho of Perth Amboy, NJ; and Nancy Telliho of New York, NY; his grand-dog, Lucy and grand-cat Mish-Mish; as well as by his sister-in-laws Lillian Telliho and Helen Telliho, many nieces and nephews, and more than 10 grandnieces and grandnephews.

The family thanks their friends and extended family for all of their support over the past nearly 10 years while Charles lived with his disease. His wife Arline is particularly grateful to the JFK Hospice service and the many home health aides supplied by Senior Helpers over the years.

Charles will be remembered as a devoted family man to his wife, children and extended family, a resolute friend and civic-minded member of the community.
