Charles Edward Fritz, 89, of Hernando, FL, previously of Edison, NJ, passed away peacefully January 18, 2026, 2 days prior to his 90th birthday. He was born to William C. and Mary C. (Kemmerer) Fritz of Barnsville, PA, on January 20, 1936. He was the second oldest of five siblings.
Charles worked 38 years at Wakefern Food Corporation in Elizabeth, NJ, the distributor of ShopRite supermarkets. He was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Edison since 1973. Charles was very active in the church; he served as Church Council President, the head of the Property Committee, head Usher and Greeter, and member of the Stewardship Committee and Choir.
Charles loved his family with all his heart. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
His hobbies were gardening, woodworking, hunting, fishing and bowling. He was a Philadelphia sports fan. He especially loved seeing his grandchildren excel at sports. Charles loved the beach and island vacations, especially Hawaii, Avalon and Wildwood Crest, NJ.
Surviving are his wife, Betty, of 66 years; his daughter, Pamela Bateman and her husband, Ken, and his son, Charles W. and his wife, Tracey; four grandchildren: Eric Bateman and his wife Taylor, Kaitlyn Fritz, Christina Fritz, and Robbie Fritz; three sisters: Connie May, Joan Blair, and Judy Koenig; and his brother, Robert Fritz, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place on Saturday, January 31st, from 10:00 am to 10:45 am at St. Paul's Evangelical Church, 445 Old Post Road, Edison, NJ 08817. The funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 am. It will be followed by interment at Woodbridge Memorial Gardens, US Hwy 1 and Woodbridge Center Drive, Woodbridge, NJ 07095. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Flynn and Son / Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ 08863.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
