Obituary

Cesar Briceno, 82, of Perth Amboy, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2025.

Born on December 6, 1942, in Huamachuco, Provincia de La Libertad, Peru, Cesar was raised in the vibrant coastal city of Trujillo. There, he earned his certificate in Photogrammetry from the Universidad Nacional de Trujillo and began building the foundation of a life shaped by technical skill, deep family values, and quiet determination. With the unwavering support of his beloved wife, Laura, Cesar made the courageous decision to leave Peru and start a new life in the United States.

He first settled in a one-bedroom apartment in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, and began working as a laborer at the Russel Stanley drum factory to build a new future for his wife, Laura, and their infant daughter, Giannina, who would join him the following year. Not long after, their family grew with the birth of their son, Glenn.

Determined to adapt to his new environment, Cesar attended evening classes at the local adult high school to learn English while continuing to work. He eventually gained employment in his trained field as a photogrammetrist—a profession he held dear and often spoke of with pride. Unfortunately, a workplace accident at a local textile factory impaired his vision and forced him to leave the field. After a prolonged recovery, Cesar embarked on a new path, enrolling in an auto mechanics program that launched the next chapter of his career.

Over the years, Cesar worked at several local Ford and Lincoln Mercury dealerships and held positions in various factory jobs, including as a skilled garment cutter at Schott Brothers. Ultimately, he fulfilled a dream by opening his own business—Caesar's Auto Repair—a trusted neighborhood shop known for expert service and Cesar's warm, dependable presence. He also gave back to the community as an evening instructor at Perth Amboy Vo-Tech, teaching adult auto mechanics and small engine repair courses. He took great pride in mentoring his students, many of whom were starting over in the way he once had.

Cesar was known for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones. He cherished time spent with family and friends—especially during lively gatherings full of laughter, good food, and spirited conversation. A lifelong fútbol fan, he followed the World Cup with enthusiasm and cheered passionately for Peru and other Latin American teams. Cesar was always ready to help anyone in need, offering quiet support and care without hesitation. A man of many skills, trades, and stories, his presence will be deeply missed.

Cesar is predeceased by his parents, Agustin Briceno and Rosa Contreras.

He is survived by his devoted wife of more than 55 years, Laura; his loving children, Giannina (Richard) Seaman and Glenn (Jolene) Briceno; his sister, Augusta Valenzuela; his cherished grandchildren, Autumn Perez, Serena Perez, Olivia Briceno, and Jordan Briceno; his great-granddaughter, Natalia Biel-Perez; and many adoring cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 424 East Ave., Perth Amboy, NJ 08861.
