Obituary

Carl Annand, 78, of Edison NJ, passed away on December 4, 2025.  He died peacefully at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick after a sudden brain aneurysm.  We are incredibly grateful for all of support from family, friends, doctors, nurses, and everyone else who showed such care and compassion in this difficult time.

Carl was born in Westbury, NY on September 27, 1947.  He received his batchelor's degree from the University of Rochester Eastman School of Music for Performance on Trumpet.  He then served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in South Korea as part of the US International Guard.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 471 in Iselin, NJ.  After discharge, he went on to receive his master's degree at Trenton State College in Music Education.

He was the Band Director for Woodrow Wilson Middle School, Edison for 30 years before retiring in 2009.  He received the teacher of the year and numerous awards over the course of his career.  More significant was the thousands of students he taught and got to know through music.

Carl met his wife, Nancy, while at The Eastman School of Music.  They spent the next 55 years together teaching, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.  Carl and Nancy lived in Carteret, Fords, and finally retired in Edison.  They are renowned for their gardening and daily walks in the malls and surrounding neighborhood.

Carl was predeceased by his parents, Catherine and James Annand.  Carl is survived by his wife Nancy, his son Jim, daughter-in-law Kari, and his sister Carol Annand.

Private arrangements have been entrusted to Flynn and Son / Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ.  A memorial service will be held at a future date after the new year.
