Obituary

Bertha Hascha, 95, of Perth Amboy, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2015, at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Perth Amboy. Bertha was born in Brownsville, PA.  She and her parents returned to Czechoslovakia while Bertha was still a young child. She was raised and schooled there while assisting her father on his farm.  As a US citizen, Bertha returned to the United States at age 17, leaving her parents behind.  She worked as a Housekeeper for a doctor in New York for many years while continuing to support her family back in Czechoslovakia.  In 1940, Bertha met and married Alexander Hascha.  They settled in Perth Amboy and raised their five children.  In 1960, they built a new home.  Bertha independently remained in her home, with the assistance and care of her daughter, until her death.

She worked many years as a Seamstress in several companies in Perth Amboy.  Bertha retired from Princeton Shirt Company in Hopelawn in 1983. She was a faithful member of St. John's Orthodox Church in Perth Amboy who volunteered her services making pirohis, bread, and cakes for over 25 years. She was a member of the PTO. Bertha enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing, and especially enjoyed working around her yard. She was an avid vegetable-garden grower.

Bertha was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Alexander Hascha, in 1989; one brother; two sisters; and her dear mother, Bertha Walshinski, and father, Michael Rudo.

She is survived by her beloved children:  Irene Cuzydlo and her husband,Ray; Eleanor Mucinski  and her husband, Richard; Carol Kuziw; Richard Hascha and  his wife,Gail; and Deborah Hascha; and adoring grandchildren: Tyrone, Kevin, Michael, Raymond, Robbie, Jill, Alex, and Matthew.  She was the cherished great-grandmother of Nicholas, Natalie, Kyle, Cindy, Jacob, Mia and Shayne.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 31, at 9:30 am at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ 08863 followed by a 10:00 Funeral Liturgy at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Perth Amboy.  Visitation will be on Friday from 4-8 pm at the funeral home with Parastas at 7:30.  Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery.
