Bernice C. Illig Skovran 75, of Taneytown, MD, entered into eternal rest Wednesday September 17, 2014, at Carroll Hospital in Westminster, MD. She was born in Ebensburg, PA, and lived in Fords/Edison for many years, before moving to Florida in 2005 and then to Maryland in 2013.
Bernice was a graduate of Middlesex County Vocational and Technical School nursing program in 1983. She went on to work as an LPN at Roosevelt Hospital in Edison for 15 years before retiring in 1999.
She was a devout Catholic and a huge NY Giants fan. Bernice loved to watch tennis on TV, old western movies, and the EWTN religious channel. She also loved cooking, and enjoyed doing Sudoko and jigsaw puzzles.
Bernice was predeceased by her husband Frank T. Skovran in 1990, and her siblings Dolores, Charlotte, William Paul, and Peter. She is survived by her children Frank P. Skovran of Stuart, FL, and Millie Hatcher of Taneytown, MD, grandchildren Marcus and Frankie Skovran, and sisters Theresa Lapczynski of Old Forge, PA, and Gerri Gonzalez of Ebensburg, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10 am at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, followed by a 10:30 am funeral liturgy at Our Lady of Peace R C Church. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 4 pm to 8 pm. In lieu of flowers contributions are requested to the American Cancer Society.
