Bernard
Zuckerman
Mar 16, 1936 — Dec 25, 2019
Bernard ("Bernie") Zuckerman (3/16/1936-12/25/2019)
Bernard "Bernie" Zuckerman unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday 12/25/2019 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital from cardiac complications.
A tremendously genuine and kind man with a beautiful smile and wonderful sense of humor, Bernie will be terribly missed by his caring family and friends. Bernie was predeceased by his loving wife Fran and son Bob, and is survived by his son, Alan. Bernie was born and raised in the Bronx by his parents Max and Eva Zuckerman, since deceased.
Bernie and Fran moved with their sons from the Bronx to New Jersey in 1967. Although Bernie resided in New Jersey for over 50 years, he always was a "Bronx boy" at heart, taking great pride in his childhood roots. An avid baseball fan, Bernie was a huge New York Giants baseball fan. When the Giants (sadly) moved to San Francisco, Bernie shifted his allegiance to the new team in town, the New York Mets. Bernie also rooted for the football Giants and the Knicks, but he was always a baseball fan at his core. Up until his untimely passing, Bernie would enjoy listening to sporting events on his small transistor radio, just as he had done in his youth in the Bronx.
Bernie was a proud graduate of James Monroe High School in the Bronx, subsequently earning his Bachelors in Business Administration Degree in 1957 from The College of The City of New York (Baruch College), with a concentration in Accounting. During his professional career, Bernie held various accountancy positions in the public sector, including numerous years as the Business Office Director at The Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. After leaving the public accounting sector, Bernie established Bernard Zuckerman and Company, which he continued to maintain on a "semi-retired basis" until his passing.
Always giving of his time and expertise, Bernie was an active volunteer (and sometimes Board) member of numerous organizations including: New Jersey Council of The Blind, Alliance Center For Independence, Middlesex County Low Vision Group, Computer Talk of Central New Jersey, and New Jersey Friends of The Library.
In lieu of flowers, Bernie's family would appreciate your kind donation be sent to the following organization. Donations will be combined with existing funds of the organization, with a scholarship being renamed in Bernie's honor. The scholarship is awarded to select blind and visually impaired high school and college students as assistance for their college tuition:
