Obituary

A long and happy life ended Sunday for Beatrice " Bea" Johansen who died at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick with her family by her side.

Beatrice was a dedicated lifetime member of Grace Lutheran Church in Perth Amboy, where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and served on the church council and building committee.

Born on March 20, 1928, in Fords, she earned a Bachelor's Degree from Douglas College in 1949 and later went on to receive a Master's Degree from Rutgers University. After graduating, she was a dedicated elementary and high school teacher and guidance counselor in Avenel, Woodbridge, and Colonia before retiring in 1990.

Beatrice was known for her great smile and warm nature. She especially enjoyed skiing, tennis, the shore, traveling, shopping, and dining out. Her life was spent surrounded by friends who cherished her company and family who treasured her unconditional love. She is survived by many loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday September 8, 2011, at 11:00 am at the Grace Lutheran Church followed by entombment in Alpine Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are requested to Grace Lutheran Church or the "JDRF" Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
