Barbara Anna (Hudanish) Zulin Houghton, 87, of Sewaren, NJ passed away Thursday, December 19, 2024 at JFK Hospital in Edison, NJ. Born on November 19, 1937 in Perth Amboy, she was the daughter of Peter and Anna (Rebovich) Hudanish, both of Ruthenian-Slovakian heritage.
Raised in Perth Amboy, Barbara attended Perth Amboy public schools. She co-owned the Sewaren Deli for a decade. Barbara was later employed by the Perth Amboy Board of Education in food service at the Samuel E. Shull School.
Barbara was a lifelong member and devoted volunteer of Saint Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Parish, Perth Amboy. A family matriarch, she guided her family through happy and difficult times. Barbara loved cooking for her family, especially traditional Slovak recipes. She enjoyed warmly reminiscing about her family and old friends while hosting holiday dinners. An avid reader of fiction and newspapers, Barbara was also a skilled crossword hobbyist.
Barbara is survived by four children: Brian Zulin (late wife Robin Fraind Zulin) of Port Murray, NJ; Patricia Zulin of Sewaren, NJ; Pamela (Zulin) Mosko (husband John Mosko) of Perth Amboy, NJ; and Peter Zulin (late wife Jessica Correa Zulin) of Perth Amboy, NJ; and her grandchildren: Peter, Andrew, Jonathan, Brother Alexander Joseph C.O., and Elizabeth.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Dorothy Simon, Eleanor Hudanish; and brothers Thomas, Joseph "Howie," Albert, and James Hudanish; and granddaughter, Amy.
She is also survived by many beloved friends and relations, including her nieces and nephews: Robert, Cynthia, Kenneth, Lisa, Donna, Diane, Thomas, David, Jeffrey, and Eileen.
Friends may call on Sunday, December 22, 2024 from 3:00pm - 7:00pm at the Flynn and Son/Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ. with a Parastas service at 5:00pm. Funeral services will begin in the funeral home on Monday, December 23, 2024 at 9:30am. Requiem of Divine Liturgy will take place at 10:00am in St Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church, 420 Washington St., Perth Amboy. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
