Obituary

Barbara Diane Cleary

Barbara Diane Cleary, beloved sister, aunt, great-aunt, friend, and animal lover, passed away surrounded by the love and memories of those who knew her.

Barbara was born on March 2, 1943, in Petersburg, Virginia, to William and Olive (Langan) Cleary. At the time, William was stationed in Virginia but the family returned home to Perth Amboy, New Jersey, where Barbara was raised and graduated from Perth Amboy High School in 1961.

A talented and creative woman, Barbara attended the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts, where she completed a three-year program of study. Her artistic talents and love of creativity remained an important part of her life. She worked for Lord & Taylor in New York and later for Muscle Builder Magazine.

Barbara's deep love for animals, and especially horses, eventually led her to a career as a horse groomer. She worked with many trainers throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania and cared for horses at Penn National, the Meadowlands, and Monmouth racetracks. Her dedication and affection for the animals in her care were a true reflection of her generous heart.

Barbara also worked as a cashier at the Acme in Lincroft, New Jersey but her last employment was as a clerk at Monmouth Racetrack. Beyond her work, Barbara was a talented artist who also loved to bake. She had a warm and outgoing personality and was truly a social butterfly. She was fond of people from all walks of life and had a special ability to make others feel welcome and cared for.

Barbara cherished her family dearly. She is survived by her sister Geraldine Mazurek and brother-in-law John; her sister Therese Cleary; and her brother Brian and sister-in-law Denise. She was a loving aunt to her seven nieces and nephews and a devoted great-aunt to her seven great-nieces and great-nephews. She treasured every one of them and proudly celebrated their milestones throughout the years.

Barbara will be remembered for her creativity, kindness, love of animals, generous spirit, and the joy she brought to those around her. Her laughter, warmth, and genuine affection for others will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

May she rest peacefully, surrounded by the love she so freely gave to others.
