Avis D. (Patterson) Alexander, 81, of Iselin, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2015 at JFK Haven Hospice in Edison. Mrs. Alexander was born in St. Patricks Parish, and Grenada had lived in England before coming to the US in 1962. She had lived in Perth Amboy for twelve years, before moving to Iselin forty-one years ago.
Mrs. Alexander was employed by the Perth Amboy Board of Education for over thirty years before retiring in 2003.
She was a devoted member of the Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish - Our Lady of Hungary Church in Perth Amboy and also a member of the OLH Altar Rosary Society.
Avis was predeceased by her aunt Jane "Auntie" Joseph, four sisters and one brother.
She was a loving wife and mother and deeply supportive grandmother. She greatly enjoyed bingo and trips to Atlantic City, gardening, had a love for all things Michael Kors, and was a lifelong Yankee fan.
She is survived and will be deeply missed by her loving husband of fifty five years, Peter John Alexander, her two daughters and their husbands' Dorothy T. Alexander-Wardally and Arthur of Elmont, Long Island, and Debra Ann Howard and Dennis of Iselin, her son, Trevor M. Alexander, also of Iselin, her four grandchildren, Schemicah Alexander, Christopher Alexander; Dominique Howard and Dennis "DJ" Howard, a brother in law, Dunbar Alexander, several nieces and nephews and her dear friend, Janice Schimpf.
Funeral services will be held Saturday 10:15 am at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home 23 Ford Ave., Fords, followed by an 11 am mass in the Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish - Our Lady of Hungary RC Church in Perth Amboy. Interment will follow in Our Lady Of Hungary Cemetery in Fords. Visitation hours will be held Friday from 6-8 pm.
