Obituary

Arnold R. Bernas, 91, of Monroe Township, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, at Mira Vie at Forsgate.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Arnold was formerly of the Fords section of Woodbridge Township and East Windsor before moving to Monroe Township.

Arnold earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the City University of New York and enjoyed a distinguished career spanning more than 35 years. He spent over 25 years with FMC Corporation in New Jersey and Pennsylvania before continuing his professional journey with the Environmental Protection Agency in New York for another decade. He retired in 2000.

While proud of his career, Arnold's greatest joy came from family, friends, and the simple pleasures of life. He was a gentle soul with a pragmatic outlook, often offering straightforward advice such as, "Just do your best." He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, whether attending sporting events, sharing stories, enjoying family vacations, or creating traditions that would become treasured memories for generations.

Arnold had a lifelong passion for sports and competition. He was a devoted New York Yankees and New York Giants fan, enjoyed bowling, cards, poker, and golf. He appreciated music ranging from classical favorites such as the 1812 Overture to country music and opera. He loved good food and good company, especially a perfectly prepared Dover sole, filet mignon, lamb chops, a well-made martini with three olives, or a glass of Chianti shared among family and friends.

Curious and knowledgeable by nature, Arnold was always eager to learn and share what he knew. He also had a lifelong fascination with World War II history and aircraft and enjoyed reading, watching documentaries, or discussing the planes and events that shaped that generation.

Arnold was predeceased by his beloved parents, Albert and Lillian Bernas.

He is survived by his loving children: Laura Bernas; Laurence Bernas and his wife, Carole Hessemer, of Ponte Vedra, Florida; Jeffrey Bernas and his wife, Lori, of East Windsor, New Jersey and David Bernas and Lisa Morganti of Manalapan, New Jersey. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Jake, Trevor, Jordan, Lenny, and Lilly; his brother, Stan E. Bernas of Florida; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Arnold will be remembered for his kindness, intelligence, sense of humor, unwavering love for his family, and the quiet dignity with which he lived his life.
