In Loving Memory of Arline Joan “Gramz” Vamos September 19, 1934 – August 9, 2026

Arline Joan Vamos, affectionately known to so many as “Gramz,” passed away peacefully on August 9, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on September 19, 1934, to Andrew and Helen Farkas, Arline grew up in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, and later made her home in Port Reading, New Jersey. On September 21, 1957, she married the love of her life, Ernest Andrew Vamos, beginning a beautiful life and family together. Ernest “Ernie” sadly passed away at the young age of 63, leaving Arline to carry on their life and legacy together through their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Their love and the family they built remained one of the most important parts of Arline’s life.

Arline was a woman who was truly one of a kind. She was outgoing, personable, adventurous, kind, and deeply loving. To those who knew her, she had one of the purest souls. She had a way of making people feel welcome, loved, and important, and her presence brought warmth wherever she went. Gramz loved life and embraced every opportunity to enjoy it. She loved playing Scrabble and watching game shows, and she had a true love for music. She also had a deep love for sports, especially basketball. For more than 30 years, Gramz was a proud Rutgers basketball season ticket holder, sharing countless games, laughs, and unforgettable memories with her very best friends, Joan and Richie, and Donna and Charlie. The years of traveling with them, attending games, going to concerts, and simply enjoying life together were some of the adventures that brought her so much happiness. But above all, Gramz loved her family. Her greatest legacy will not be found in possessions or accomplishments, but in the love she gave so freely to the people around her.

She is survived by her children, Michael and his wife, Jane; Cathy and her former husband, Steve, who remained a beloved son-in-law; and Dana. She was preceded in death by her son, Ernest Jr. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Heather and Luke, Nicole and Daniel, Mickey, Michael and Casey, and Amanda, as well as her beloved great-grandchildren, Jacob, Zoey, and Navy, whom she adored. Arline was also the beloved sister of Alan and her older brother, Andy, who preceded her in death. She is survived by Alan, along with other family and friends who were blessed to know and love her. Gramz had a way of reminding those around her to live honestly and authentically. One of the lessons she leaves with us is simple but powerful: “Always be true to yourself, and you can never go wrong.” Those words are a beautiful reflection of the woman she was. She was genuine, loving, and completely herself. Her laughter, her stories, her kindness, her adventurous spirit, and the love she gave so freely will be deeply missed. The memories she created will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her, and her love will continue through every generation of her family. Until we meet again, Gramz. We love you more than words could ever say, always.

Visitation will be at the Flynn and Son/Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ 08863 on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 3-7 pm. Funeral Services will begin Friday at 9:30 am at the funeral home, followed by a 10 am Service of Devine Liturgy at St Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Perth Amboy. Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
