Antonio A. Lopes, 85, of Fords, passed away at JFK Medical Center on April 23, 2021.
He was born on May 26, 1935 in Mangualde-Viseu, Portugal. Antonio was in the military for 5 years as a tank commander. After his time in the military, Antonio moved to Seia, Portugal where he was a truck driver and a volunteer fireman. Antonio and his family resided in Angola-Luanda in the 1960s. While in Angola, he was a bus driver and professional motor vehicle instructor. In the late 1970s, he moved back to Portugal where he continued his passion. During the 1980s, Antonio and his family came to America and resided in Newark and then moved to Freehold. Antonio worked as a mechanic.
Antonio was a mechanic for Berto Construction. When Antonio retired, he moved back to Portugal to enjoy life taking care of his land. In 2016, he moved back to America with his family, where he resided with his son and daughter-in-law.
Antonio was predeceased by his parents, Armando and Guilhermina Lopes.
He is survived by his loving wife, Maria A. Lopes , of Fords and two children, Antonio J. Lopes, and his wife, Isabel; and Rita Oliveira and her husband, Carlos; four grandchildren: Sonia Llewellyn, Sofia Lopes, Andreia Carrera and Carla Vieira; and a great-granddaughter, Emelia Llewellyn.
