Antoinette Madeline Mastrovich (nee Marino), 88, of Southport, North Carolina, died peacefully on Monday, May 28, 2012 at Dosher Skilled Nursing Center in Southport, NC.
Antoinette was born March 1, 1924 in Elizabeth, NJ, the daughter of the late Peligrino and Felomena Marino (nee Rosa).
Her husband of 40 years, Charles A. Mastrovich, preceded her in death in 1985.
She is survived by her son, Charles Mastrovich and wife Beverly of St. James Plantation, NC; her son, Richard Mastrovich and wife Mary Jane of Palm Bay, FL and formerly of Dracut, MA; and a grandson, David Mastrovich and his wife Katie of Dedham, MA. In additio,n Antoinette had 2 beautiful great-grandchildren, great-grandson, Ethan and great-granddaughter, Keira, both of Dedham, MA.
As a young woman, Antoinette worked for the Singer Sewing Machine Co. in Elizabeth, NJ, and during WWII was one of only a few people cleared to work on the construction of the secret Norden Bomb Sight for the US Air Force. After marriage, the balance of her life was spent as a homemaker in Fords, NJ and being active with her family in sports, school activities and travel. She also spent time in both St. James, NC and Dracut, MA living with her sons. During her time in St James she always had time to enjoy her favorite meal, fresh local shrimp.
Burial will be on Saturday, June 2, 2012, at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, NJ at 11:00AM under the direction of Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ 08863.
