Anthony
Zaleski
September 25, 1926 – December 12, 2024
Anthony Zaleski, 98, passed at his home on Thursday, December 12, 2024.
He was born in 1926 in South Amboy to Anna (Grynkiewicz) and Julian Zaleski, several minutes after his twin brother Arthur, with whom he shared a 97-year inseparable bond until Arthur's passing earlier this year. After attending Sacred Heart Grammar School, where he learned to speak Polish and Hoffman High School in South Amboy where he played baseball (outfield), he received a degree in theology and philosophy from St Mary's College at the seminary in Orchard Lake, Michigan.
At the age of 21 Anthony voluntarily enlisted in the army during the end of World War II and was called to serve during the Korean war. He later met his wife Anna Marie through a blind date organized by his brother Arthur, and they returned the favor by introducing Arthur to his future wife Pauline.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle. He was a long-time member of Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Fords NJ, a member of the Holy Name Society, and assisted in preparation for Monday Novena and Tuesday Blue Army for many years. While he lived in Fords he and his wife enjoyed supporting the Dominican Nuns in Summit, and throughout the years were involved in helping many charities in the US and internationally. Upon moving to Hillsborough, Anthony also joined the Christ the Redeemer parish in Manville, NJ. He went to church daily as long as he was able, and enjoyed praying the rosary daily with his wife and family members.
He worked at FMC Corporation in Carteret and then Princeton NJ for over 30 years as a laboratory technician. After he retired he took up baking breads, cakes, and cookies along with his wife, sharing them with friends and neighbors. He enjoyed good health until several months before his passing and a sharp mind even then, helping us all keep up with things. The family appreciates all of the help from relatives, friends and home caregivers during his final months.
He was predeceased by his most beloved wife of 65 years Anna Marie (nee Vitkosky), his brother and sister-in-law John and Edna Zaleski, brother Julius Zaleski, sister and brother-in-law Helen and Walter Mokrzycki, his twin brother and sister-in-law Arthur and Pauline Zaleski, and his sister-in-law and her husband Mathilda and Luke Durante. He is survived by his children Rosemary and Joseph and wife Amy Zaleski, his grandchildren Anthony, Philip, Joseph and wife Lily, and great-grandchildren Clara Joy and John Joseph, and his much-loved nieces and nephews.
He generously looked out for others all his life and will be dearly missed. Do widzenia!
