Anthony John
Mongeau
February 27, 1943 – January 27, 2024
Anthony J. Mongeau, 80, went peacefully to his rest on January 27, 2024 at Hackensack Meridian/Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy with his family by his side.
He was born in New Bedford, MA; the son of the late Winifred Gallagher Mongeau, who emigrated from Duntocher, Scotland and arrived in the US through Ellis Island, and Alphonse Mongeau. Anthony was raised in Brooklyn, NY and was afforded a catholic education at Our Lady of Angels School and St. Leonard's High School. After graduation, he was drafted into the US Army serving from 1964-67. He spent the majority of his service stationed in Ft. Holabird in Baltimore, MD until he was discharged. After his military service, Anthony still wanted to serve his community so he entered the Baltimore City Police Dept. and worked for the Department until 1970 when he and his family returned to Staten Island. They relocated to Fords, Woodbridge, and South River before settling in Parlin. After returning to the New York-New Jersey area Anthony worked for Metex Corporation in Edison for many years. His retirement years were spent in the company of the love of his life Mary White Mongeau, (the former Mary Bacon,) and doting on his grandchildren. He was deeply rooted in his faith in God and loved to share his belief with anyone he could.
He was a loving husband, devoted father, dear step-father, beloved brother, and adoring grandfather and will be missed beyond measure by those who loved him and the honor of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, Anthony was preceded in death by his step-daughter Janet Applegate. He is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years: Mary Mongeau; son: Peter M Mongeau and his wife Kristine; daughter: Mary E. Angle; brother: Alphonse G. Mongeau; step-daughter: Brenda Perez; grandchildren: Audrey and Max Mongeau, Samantha Angle, Ashley Kell, John Perez, and Chyanna Applegate; great-grandchildren: Jesse and Aidan Perez, Lucas and Dominick Rosa and Oliver Piscopo.
Cremation services have been entrusted to the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, Fords.
