Anthony Silva Jr. 70 of Fords, passed away peacefully at home Thursday February 27, 2014, surrounded by those who loved him. He was born in Hopelawn and has resided in Fords since 1947.
Anthony worked in the family businesses of Superior Oil Service until 1985 and A. Silva Plumbing and Heating until his retirement in 2000
He served his country faithfully during the Vietnam War in the United States Marine Corps. He was the recipient of the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Presidential Unit Citation, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Purple Heart. Anthony was a member of the Fords VFW Post #6090, the Marine Corps League John Basilone Post, and the Disabled American Veterans.
He was also a communicant of Our Lady of Peace R C Church in Fords, and a member of the Portugese Sporting Club in Perth Amboy.
Anthony was predeceased by his mother Priscilla in 1993. He will be deeply missed by those who survive him, his daughters Patricia Peterson and her husband Scott, Sheri Lee Covino and her husband Nino both of Fords, his father Anthony Silva Sr. of Edison, his siblings Diana Sutton of Sewaren, and Thomas Silva and his wife Joanne of Woodbridge, and his former wife Arlene Herman of Dayton. He was also a wonderful grandfather to Scott A., Danielle, Joey, and Gianna.
Funeral services will be held on Monday March 3, 2014, at 10 am at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home 23 Ford Avenue, Fords. Entombment will follow in Clover Leaf Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 pm. contributions may be made to Our Lady of Peace Church.
