Obituary

Anna (Ann) May Prentice, age 93, died Friday, July 1, 2022, at Parker at Landing Lane Nursing Home.  She is reunited with her husband and travel partner, William "Bill" Prentice.

Born in the Ridgewood section of Queens, New York, she moved to Somerset, New Jersey in 1956 and later to Hillsborough where she made her home for 49 years. She entered Parker Landing Lane in January 2020.

She worked at Rutgers University in the Food Service Department for 30 years retiring in 1989 as Director of the Douglass Café. While working at Rutgers she began pursuing an undergraduate degree in American Studies which she completed in 1995.

She was a Girl Scout leader in Somerset and an active volunteer in many organizations including, the Hillsborough Senior Citizens Group A, Hillsborough Police Department, People Care Center-Adult Care Program now known as the Adult Care Center of Somerset, Bridgewater Garden Club, and former "Queen" of the Red Hat Brigade of Bridgewater. She was also very talented with her skills in sewing, crocheting, knitting and crafts. An avid reader, she went through 3 Kindles in her later years and mastered the use of FaceTime on her iPad to communicate with family during the COVID-19 pandemic when nursing homes were not allowed to have visitors.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Prentice in March of 1999. She is survived by her five children: one son, William of Somerset: four daughters, Carol Savage of Metuchen, Gail Toth of Metuchen, Laurie Hoffman of Lebanon Township and Christine of Phoenix, AZ; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Flynn and Son/Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Ave., Metuchen on Saturday, July 9th, from 11-1 PM. Cremation will take place privately.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to "The Adult Day Care Center of Somerset," 872 E. Main Street, Bridgewater, NJ 08807 and to the "Anna M. Prentice Scholarship," Associate Alumnae of Douglass College, 181 Ryders Lane, New Brunswick, NJ 08901-8557.
