Ann Marie
Mcghee
Oct 22, 1943 — Apr 9, 2020
Ann Marie McGhee, 76, of Edison, passed at her home on Thursday, April 9, 2020. She was born in Bayonne to Anthony and Mary Moscinski and graduated from Holy Family Academy in 1961. As a girl, she learned to play the organ and was delighted with her first job as organist at a roller-skating rink.
Ann Marie always wanted to become a teacher and would play "school" as a child, even in the summers. She received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education at Jersey City State College in 1965. She then began her tenure as a primary education teacher in Jersey City. During her 42 years at the Kennedy School, she enjoyed teaching various grades from pre-K to fifth grade; her biggest passion was teaching children to read. Ann Marie also served as the advisor for the quiz bowl team.
Ann Marie lived in Bayonne for many years before moving to Edison in 1986. She was a parishioner of St. Matthew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Edison.
Ann Marie learned to love sports from her dad. She was an enthusiastic fan of Rutgers football and basketball, and of many New York pro teams. During her later years, she could still name the lineups of the Brooklyn Dodgers of her youth. In a family filled with cousins, she had committed to memory many birthdays, often reaching out with a call or a card. She always enjoyed the large family gatherings that were given, a chance to laugh over cake and coffee. She'll be missed and remembered for the twinkle in her eye, her generosity, and her eagerness to chat up any stranger.
Ann Marie leaves behind her beloved daughter Katherine "Katie" McGhee of Bloomfield, NJ, and her three beloved sons, Michael of Manassas, Virginia; James "Jim" of Piscataway; and Jack McGhee of Edison. She also leaves her sister Rita Scrudato and brother-in-law Len of Point Pleasant, NJ, and her brother Anthony Moscinski of Bayonne, NJ, as well as many cousins and friends.
Due to the current Covid-19 crisis, a private funeral will take place at the Flynn and Son / Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Ave., Metuchen, NJ 08840. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association, Feeding America, or the UC Theater Renovation at Union Catholic Regional High School.
