Andrew "Andy"
Petrick
May 6, 1922 – March 20, 2022
Andrew "Andy" A. Petrick, 99, of Perth Amboy, passed away at Raritan Bay Medical Center on March 20th, 2022 of natural causes. Born to Rudolph and Mary Petrick (née Pyontek) on May 6th, 1922, Andrew was a proud lifelong resident of Perth Amboy. As the owner and proprietor of Petrick's Flowers, he served the local community for almost a century, pairing an extraordinary work ethic with true artistry. While he made floral arrangements to mark countless important occasions, he also dedicated equal care to beautifying everyday life with both his flowers and unceasing generosity. During the Second World War, he served as a member of the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater, after which he became a member of the Hopelawn VFW and the Marine Corps League.
A loving father, he had a knack for making the worst situations better with his positive attitude and sense of humor. Known as "Pop" to his grandchildren, Andrew always made them feel special and loved. With a smile, a kind word, or a reassuring hug, he could be counted on to accompany them on the fastest roller coasters, to drive them to the toy store for forbidden treasures, or to sneak them extra dessert. In his later years, he continued to love being with people and to make friends wherever he went.
Andrew was predeceased by his beloved wife, Marie, in 2015; his brothers, Joseph, Rudolph, Frank, John, and William Petrick; and his sisters, Julie Ferrari, Margaret Yaros, and Mary Nagy.
He is survived by his son, William Petrick, who continues at the helm of Petrick's Flowers as third-generation owner, and his wife, Stefanie; his daughter, Joan Petrick Contess and her former husband, Neil Contess; his grandchildren, Katherine and Susan Contess, and Anthony, Rose, Nicole, and Katherine Petrick; his sister, Ann Poznick, and many nieces and nephews, including Jerry Yaros, with whom he was especially close; and his devoted caregivers.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 23rd, 2022, from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ 08863. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 24th, 2022, at 10:30 am at the funeral home followed by an 11:00 am Funeral Liturgy at Good Shepherd Parish–Holy Rosary Church, Hopelawn. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Hopelawn.
