Anastasia
Grano
December 17, 1937 – December 21, 2025
Anastasia "Nonna" Grano, 88, of Perth Amboy, NJ, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025. Anastasia was born in Petillia Policastro, Italy, to Rosario and Rosa Cavallo. Immigrating to the United States in 1953, she lived in Perth Amboy her whole life.
Anastasia and her late husband, Mario built a business now called Mario Grano and Sons, LLC and realized the American dream. She was the "Matriarch" of the family and helped her husband run the business until the boys, Gene and Ben, assumed the helm in 1989.
Anastasia was a beloved wife, mother, Nonna and the ultimate homemaker. She was a talented seamstress who crafted many of her own dresses, curtains, and tablecloths for the dining tables. She enjoyed tending to her garden, where she grew tomatoes, basil, squash, figs, and much more. With these fresh ingredients, she prepared delicious tomato sauce for her famous baked ziti, lasagna, and homemade pizzas. She was also a talented baker, making her own bread, taralli, other baked goods, and food for anyone she knew. Anastasia truly loved cooking for those around her. She especially loved making meals for and with her sons and grandchildren. Her grandchildren would eagerly gather around the kitchen table, waiting for steaming bowls of pastina, sprinkled with cheese or savoring the comforting aroma of her simmering pasta fagioli. These moments brought everyone together and made her kitchen the heart of the home.
Anastasia was a communicant of the Good Shepherd Parish of Holy Rosary Church, in Hopelawn, NJ.
Anastasia is predeceased by her husband, Mario in 1993, her parents, Rosario and Rosa Cavallo, and her brothers, Pete and Frank Cavallo.
Anastasia is survived by her two loving sons, Gene and daughter-in-law, Kathy, and Ben and his fiancée, Rosemary Parsons, her seven adoring grandchildren, Megan, Mario, Katelyn, Gianna, Lauren, Jenna and Anthony, and her sister, Maria Chiarella.
A funeral liturgy will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Good Shepherd Parish of Holy Rosary Church, Hopelawn, NJ. Entombment will follow at the St. James Mausoleum, off Florida Grove Rd., in Hopelawn, NJ.
Local funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Flynn and Son / Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Avenue, Fords, NJ, 08863. (732) 826-0358.
Donations may be made in Anastasia's memory to St. Judes Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org .
