Amy "Emmi"
Eiten
June 19, 1922 – December 20, 2021
Amy "Emmi" Eiten, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and wife to the late Joseph Eiten, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 20, 2021, at the age of 99, at her home in Edison, NJ.
Born Emmi Goldschmidt in Kassel, Germany to the late Melanie and Gustav Goldschmidt on June 19, 1922. As a young girl in Germany during the Nazi regime, Amy's father Gustav saw the writing on the wall, and Amy's family packed their bags and immediately fled to America via Ellis Island, eventually settling in Brooklyn, which became her home for over ten years. As a young woman in Brooklyn, she became a runway fit model where she was introduced to her future husband, Joe. Eventually, they got married and moved to Perth Amboy, where they raised their two children, and Joe and his father Benjamin started a pickle company. During her times in Perth Amboy, Amy had a few jobs, including in retail, as a salesperson and as a driving instructor. Amy was also active in Temple Beth Mordecai and the YMHA, but she was ultimately a homemaker at heart who loved and cared dearly for her family.
Amy is predeceased by her husband, Joseph Eiten, her mother and father Gustav and Melanie Goldschmidt and her stepsister Martha Katz. She is survived by her daughter, Ronnie Goldstein and her husband Edward, her son Geoffrey Eiten and his wife Hildy. She will also be greatly missed by her nine grandchildren David, Lindsey, Olivia, Carly, Talia, Jenna, Elizabeth, Michael and Melanie, and five great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Amy's caregiver, Magda Posilova, for all her love, kindness, and support for the past 17 years.
On Thursday, December 23, 2021, a graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Beth Israel Cemetery, 1098 Woodbridge Center Dr., Woodbridge Township, NJ 07095. For those attending, please meet by the administration building at the cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Red Cross or Jewish National Fund.
