Alvin Mattes 86 of Perth Amboy, entered into eternal rest October 27, 2016 at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy.  He was born in Bayonne, and has resided here for the past 55 years.

He graduated from Jersey City State College, and received his Master's Degree from Columbia University.  Alvin was a Teacher, Guidance Counselor, and Principal serving in the Samuel E. Schull School, Anthony Ceres Elementary School and William C. McGinnis Schools in Perth Amboy for 41 years before retiring in 1994.

Alvin served his country faithfully in the Army during the Korean War.

He was a member of the New Jersey Education Assn. and the American Federation of Teachers Assn.

Alvin is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lillian H. Pasternak Mattes, his children Sherri Becker and her husband William of Abingdon, MD, and Jay Mattes and his wife Joy of North Olmsted, OH, and his grandchildren Matthew, Lauren, Haylee, Joshua, and Daniel.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home 23 Ford Avenue, Fords.  Interment will be in Beth Mordecai Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers contributions are requested to the American Diabetes Assn, or the American Heart Assn.
