Obituary

Alma Rokita, 86, of Fords, passed away on December 2, 2017 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 9, 1931 in New York City.  At the age of 4, she and her father moved back to Czechoslovakia where she spent her childhood, returning to the USA when she was 16.  She was very proud of her Slovak heritage which was reflected in her cooking and baking.  Alma has resided in Fords for the last 70 years. She was a former member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Edison. Where she was in the Rosary Society and volunteered in the Bingo hall.  She is a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Alma was a avid Mets fan and a excellent baker, who also enjoyed gardening. She was a loving grandmother.

Alma was predeceased by a sister, Elizabeth Onda and a baby brother.

She is survived by her husband, of 63 years, John Rokita, of Fords; son, John D. Rokita, of Egg Harbor City; daughter, Joann Dezic, and her husband Michael, of Hillsborough; sons, Brian Rokita, and his wife, Cheri, of North Woodstock, NH, and Thomas Rokita, of Kissimmee, FL, and three granddaughters: Alyssa, Jacqueline, and Allyson.

Visitation will be Friday 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Flynn and Son Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave., Fords, NJ 08863. Funeral services will begin Saturday at 9:30 am at the funeral home. A 10 am Service of Divine Liturgy will be held at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Perth Amboy. Interment will follow in Holy Trinity Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption.
