Alfred Galkin,92, of Hallandale, Florida entered into eternal rest Saturday, December 17, 2011, at the Haven Hospice at JFK Medical Center in Edison.
He was born in Hoboken and lived in Israel for 10 years before moving to Hallandale 15 years ago. Alfred retired in 1975 after owning a cigar store in Hoboken for 40 years. He was an army Veteran of WW II and was active and served as an officer with the Jewish War Veterans. He was a volunteer guard in Natanya, Israel, patroling the streets with police during the time he lived there after his retirement. He was a strong supporter and donated an ambulance to Israel.
Alfred was predeceased by his wife, Claire a holocaust survivor, who died in 2000. He is survived by three nephews: Gary Rosenberg of NYC, Dr. Edwin Galkin, and Dr. Samuel Galkin of Edison; and a niece, Hannah Del Carpane of Bayonette Point, FL.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 19, 2011, at 12:30 pm at Riverside Cemetery in Rochelle Park. Arrangements are entrusted to the Flynn and Son/ Koyen Funeral Home, 319 Amboy Ave., Metuchen, NJ (732) 548-2134.
