Alexander J. Pochek, 78 of Manalapan, NJ passed peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at RWJ University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ.
Al was born in Perth Amboy and raised in Woodbridge, where he resided for most of his life before moving to Manalapan 17 years ago. He was a graduate of Woodbridge High School "Class of 1964." Al was a proud Vietnam War Veteran, serving in the US Air Force, whose failing health was a result of exposure to Agent Orange. He retired in 1994 after serving over 26 years as a Police Lieutenant with the Woodbridge Township Police Dept. He was a former Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop #41 in Avenel. Al was an accomplished amateur photographer who gained satisfaction in capturing a "great shot." He enjoyed subjects such as lighthouses, birds, and he especially enjoyed shooting Revolutionary War Reenactments.
He was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Helen Pochek. Al leaves behind his High School sweetheart and loving wife of 56 years, Joan (Pegos); his beloved son, Robert and his wife,Teresa, of Raritan; his beloved daughter, Sharon Karamanol and husband, Jason, of Lake Hopatcong; his four dear grandchildren: Jess, Amanda, Nicholas and CJ; as well as his sister, Helene Stickney, of Georgia.
Visitation will be on Sunday, January 5, 2025 from 1:00pm until 5:00pm, with a funeral service at 4:30pm, concluding with Air Force Military honors at 5:00pm at the Flynn and Son/Mitruska Funeral Home, 23 Ford Ave. Fords. Cremation will take place privately. Military burial at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, will take place at a later date.
