Albert (Al)
Van Havere
March 8, 2021
Albert (Al) Van Havere, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died suddenly at JFK Hospital in Edison on March 8, 2021. He was 83.
Al was born in Brooklyn, NY, raised in Piscataway and resided in Fords for the past 25 years. He was preceded in death by his three daughters: Amanda Jordan, Margaret Van Havere and Michele Behany; and his sister, Joan Famulary.
Al leaves behind his beloved wife, Ellen, with whom he was married for 25 years. He also leaves behind his brother John and his wife, Peg, and sisters Dolores Cooke and Sheri. Also surviving are two stepsons, Christopher Cerreto and Darin Cerreto and his wife, Lori; several nieces and nephews, as well as six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Al proudly served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Army Reserves.
He was a long-time employee of Johnson and Johnson in New Brunswick, serving as the manager of J&J's Executive Dining Room.
Al particularly enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to music by Abba and watching his grandchildren's musical and dance performances. He also loved watching old movies, major boxing events, English detective series and rooting for the New York baseball teams.
As a retiree, Al was a regular at the Woodbridge Community Center. He enjoyed swimming, working out in the weight room and playing pool. An extremely friendly individual, Al enjoyed interacting with others and relished the many friendships and social relationships that he developed. Al was a long-standing member of the Woodbridge Township Senior Billiards Club. The camaraderie that he shared with his fellow club members meant a great deal to him.
Al had a special place in his heart for all animals, particularly his past pets as well as his rescue dog Chase and cat Theo. He believed that every animal has a heart and soul, and it is our duty to provide animals with the level of love that we would show towards all of God's creatures.
