Adeline M. Smith, age 95 of Perth Amboy, died on Friday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. She was born in and was a lifelong resident of Perth Amboy. Adeline was a communicant of St. Mary’s RC Church in Perth Amboy where she served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. She was a member and Past President of the St. Mary Seniors Club, volunteered at the Church Bingos for over 50 years and was selected Irish Woman of the Year at the Church.

She was also a past officer and member of the Columbiettes of Perth Amboy. She was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School, Class of 1932, a member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians of South Amboy as well as Past President of the Perth Amboy Division. She was a member of the Raritan Bay Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary and was on the Board of Directors there.

She volunteered at Raritan Bay Medical Center for many years, was a member of the St. Joseph’s Guild Trinity Mission in Sterling NJ, was a volunteer for the Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital of Browns Mills for over 25 years and was the Past Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters of America in Perth Amboy which is currently of Woodbridge.

She was a member of the Perth Amboy Women’s Club, received the Governor’s Award of Newark as Tennant of the Year at the High Street Apartments in Perth Amboy and volunteered as an elections Poll Clerk in Perth Amboy for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, donating many afghans to the nursery at the Raritan Bay Medical Center.

Adeline began her working career at the Nancy Lee Bakery on Smith Street where she worked for 25 years. She then worked for the Federal Seaboard Terra Cotta Company as a Secretary for many years, before working at the Raritan River Garage as a computer operator for many years, retiring at the age of 75.

She was predeceased by her parents, Loretta and Peter Smith, her sister, Mary Smith Montani and her brother, Francis Smith.

Surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Peter J. and Bette Smith of Toms River, her sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth P. and Edward Madonna of Ft. Meyers, FL and her nieces and nephews, Cynthia Graci of Monroe Twp., Patricia Von Till of Green Brook, Debbi Rowe of Nashville, TN, Karen and Kevin Madonna of Hurley, NY. Also surviving are her 8 great nieces and nephews, Gina Katz, Dawn, Alec, Travis and Matthew Rowe, Elizabeth Madonna, Joseph Graci and her great niece and great nephew Samantha and Jeremy Katz.
