Advance Planning
Why Advance Planning?
The death of a loved one can cause a great deal of emotional stress and the necessity of arranging a funeral invariably adds to that stress. Because we are reluctant to think about a loved one dying, the consideration of planning a funeral in advance tends to be put aside. Going through the steps of arranging a funeral can be, at the very least, an overwhelming experience. Planning in advance can eliminate much of the stress that would be encountered if you were to wait until arranging the funeral was a necessity.
Advance Planning allows you to think about the type of funeral service that you wish to have for either yourself or your loved one. It gives you time to consider the many options now available and to change your mind at a later date should you decide to elect another option.
Funding an Advance-Planned Funeral
Practically, funding an advance-planned funeral is the best way to go. It allows you to pay for a funeral at today's prices with the interest on your investment covering any future cost increases. New Jersey is one of the best states in which to make advance funeral arrangements. The laws in this state guarantee that 100% of the money you invest is refundable at any time along with any accrued interest. The only exception to this is in the case of a Medicaid recipient whose pre-paid funeral arrangement is, by law, irrevocable.
The Alternative to Funding
Although funding freezes the price of an advance-planned funeral with the accumulating interest keeping up with inflationary costs, it is not the only reason to advance plan. Admittedly, it is comforting to know that once paid for, there is no reason to worry about a funeral bill in the future, but more important is the emotional side of advance planning.
With the financial aspect put aside, going to a funeral home that you confidently feel will carry out your wishes for the type of funeral you have selected can offer a tremendous amount of relief.
