Angelo “Charles” Louis Mancuso, Sr., age 86 of Edison, died on Friday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was born in Perth Amboy and had resided in Edison for the past 61 years.
Charles was the Founder and Proprietor of Edison Millwork and Hardware for the past 32 years. He was one of the founding members of the Church of the Guardian Angel in Edison, a member of the Holy Name Society, the Knights of Columbus Council 4885 and past faithful Navigator of the 4th Degree Assembly. He was past President of the Edison Rotary Club and the Middlesex County Lumberman’s Association, a member of the VFW Post 3117 in Edison and a member of the Italian American Club. Charles was also an avid Mets fan.
He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during WW II as a deep sea diver stationed in the Philippines, Australia and Guadalcanal. He was a Metalsmith 1st class and received the Philippines Liberation Star, the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon, and the Victory Medal.
He was predeceased by his son-in-law, Paul O’Connor who died in 1996.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth M. Szimko Mancuso, his son and daughter-in-law, Angelo Louis Jr. and Ann Mancuso of East Brunswick, NJ his daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Lee DeGeronimo of North Brunswick, NJ, Marianne O’Connor of Edison, NJ and Angela and Thomas Corlett of Bridgewater, NJ and his nine grandchildren, Jessica, Angelo III, Brendan, Nicholas, Craig, David and his wife, Angela, Lee Michael and his wife, Sarah, Kevin, and Timothy and his wife, Christina. Also surviving are five great grandchildren, Makenna, Eve, Mandara, Madeline, and Aidan and his sisters, Frances Galibardi of Edison, Marie D’Amico of Edison
Angeline Reperowitz of Ohio.
